This Wednesday 7 March in Batibouw, a set of architectural prizes were awarded under the banner ‘Belgian Building Awards’ in collaboration with the Order of Architects, the Confederation of Construction, Bouwkroniek, the AINB and Trends-Tendances. The main prize, the ‘International Award’ honours a Belgian who has distinguished him/herself on the international scene, or an international personality remarkable for his/her contribution to architecture in the world and, preferably, in Belgium. In recent years, the ‘International Award’ has been awarded to Santiago Calatrava (2009), Christian de Portzamparc (2010) and to the Spanish office RCR ARQUITECTES (2011). This year, the jury of the ‘Belgian Building Awards’ awarded the ‘International Award 2012’ to Ron Arad for the quality and intensity of his architectural vision of Médiacité in Liège. He was particularly recognised for his creativity, his knowledge of materials and his mastery of technology.
